May 20: André Matos + Ambrosio/Meissner Sextet

Andre Matos

DATE: Saturday, May 20
TIME: 7:30 P.M.
TICKETS: $18 ($15 FOR STUDENTS AND SENIORS)

André Matos, guitar solo

David Ambrose, double-bass; Russ Meissner, drums; Loren Stillman, alto saxophone; Matt Renzi, tenor saxophone; Nate Radley, guitar; Leonard Thompson, piano

Portuguese guitarist André Matos will open this double-bill on his own, performing pieces from “Múquina,” his beautiful new solo album on Robalo Music. About Matos, Lucid Culture has said: “It’s hard to think of a guitarist in any style, especially jazz, who makes more masterful use of space than Matos, his melodies minimalistic yet rich.”

In the second half, the David Ambrosio/Russ Meissner Sextet will play music from “Moments in Time,” the band’s new Steeplechase album. All About Jazz, reviewing “Moments in Time,” says it’s “a finely textured album where the musical voices complement each other perfectly… rich in melodic hooks.”
