Born and bred in Cuba, saxophonist Roman Filiu – veteran of groups led by the likes of Chucho Valdés and David Murray – will front an alternate version of his New York quartet featuring pianist Sam Harris, along with the usual rhythm pair of bassist Thomas Morgan and great drummer Billy Hart. All About Jazz has called the sound from Filiu’s horn “a controlled musical substance, disarming and charming at the same time.”
